Abstract

Studies on cement dust pollution have been carried out in Bagh war region of Rewa (M.P.). Assessment have been made on dust deposition, leaf chlorophyll contents and soil characteristics. Samples were collected from each four direction at every 100 mtrs distance up to one kilometer. Results indicated a decreasing trend of dust deposition on leaves of all species (3.846 to 0.016 mg/cm2) with respect to increasing distances from the emission source. Severe loss of leaf chlorophyll contents were observed for the plants of Butea monosperma, Carissa spinarum, Madhuca indica and Tectona grandis of polluted sites. Considerable difference between soils of different sites with respect to their pH (87 to 7.1) values and water holding capacity (14% to 33%) is also observed.
